Sverigedemokraterna in early 2026: more lies

A few days ago, Jimmie Åkesson, the political party leader of Sverigedemokraterna⁸, purportedly threw himself from his bed onto floor and then into a mirror. This caused a minor facial wound.

Expressen, one of the two biggest daily tabloids in Sweden, published an article¹ about this.

All translations and possible errors in translations are by myself.

The cause was a nightmare that became “very real” in which Åkesson dreamt he was being chased by a man.

– He was a man who came from this part of the world. He didn't like Swedes, Sweden Democrats, Westerners, or Jews for that matter. He was very antisemitic and he was shouting things I didn't understand in a foreign language, but it was obvious that he was a very aggressive Islamist of some kind, the SD leader tells Expressen on location in Jerusalem.

In the dream, he was about to throw himself into a bush to get away.

– It wasn't a bush, but my bedside table and a mirror that I jumped into. I woke up there, with my face all bloody, says Jimmie Åkesson.

In essence:

1. Åkesson didn't understand what the man said
2. Åkesson somehow understood that he didn't like very specific peoples

If you haven't guessed it yet, the party that Åkesson fronted is founded by neo-nazis. Åkesson joined the party at a time when they had recently formed from the ashes of a few extreme-right-wing parties, for example Bevara Sverige Svenskt (translates to Keep Sweden Swedish).

The big problem here is not that Sverigedemokraterna have a Wikipedia section named 'Racist Incidents and Expulsions'², that they're islamophobic, that they keep conspiracy-theory peddling white-supremacist idealists in the party despite facts that should lead to their getting kicked out⁴, or their extreme history⁶ of lying⁵, but that a major tabloid wrote about a dream as though it were fact. As my deep two-point journalistic dig³ exposes, Åkesson is prone to lying.

Åkesson's party reminds me of The Joker, the semi-mad character in the Batman books. I'm reminded of Heath Ledger's cinematic portrayal of The Joker as he tries to lie himself out from custody:

Gordon's got plans.Y'know they're schemers. Schemers trying to control their little worlds. I am not a schemer. I try to show the schemers how pathetic their attempts to control things really are.

Sverigedemokraterna have time and time again fallen flat on their faces. The biggest number of defectors from political municipal posts are from Sverigedemokraterna⁹, simply because they wouldn't know what to do when they finally caught a seat. They claim to be against crime, but Sverigedemokraterna have the biggest amount of criminally indicted members in parliament¹⁰. In short, they're a political Janus.

I'm not saying they're alone. They've currently got massive support from the so-called Tidö parties, the right-wing politlcal allies of Sverigedemokraterna. Even the biggest political party in Sweden, Socialdemokraterna, are turning more brown as days go by, in an insane attempt to match Sverigedemokraterna.

Sverigedemokraterna wouldn't know what to do if they got power, some people might think. Well, they know. It's not as though their entire political id is not built from the ashes of older parties.

I remember watching David Fincher's film version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo. In the film, Daniel Craig plays a Swedish journalist who digs through a family's past in order to see their present. At one point, he pulls up a photograph of Birger Furugård, one of the main builders of the Nazi movement in Sweden, the party leader of the Swedish National Socialist Party. Furugård's regime crumbled and he was even shunned by top nazis with whom he had built good rapport, for example, Joseph Goebbels.

Of course, all hope is not lost. We just have to combat ignorance, dust, and disease, to quote once-great Morrissey. And we have to do so constantly.

I live not very far from Långbro, a place in Stockholm. Before the Second World War broke out, Hermann Göring, one of the leading Nazis, spent some time in Sweden. As his mental health deteriorated, he was forcibly admitted to Långbro mental hospital¹². His journals detail strong delusions of Jews trying to 'cut out his heart' and 'control the world'. He partly stayed at Långbro metal hospital because of strong delusions.

Something must be said about Katja Nyberg. A short while ago, she was arrested, suspected of drunk driving and being under the influence of narcotics¹³, something which is proven to be true.

Every politician can do wrong. But Sverigedemokraterna do this again and again and claim that they're not doing wrong. The closer to Jimmie Åkesson a person is, the less likely they are to get kicked out; just see how Ulf Hansen is still in power¹⁴. Hansen is one of Åkesson's old friends and drummer in his favourite music band, Ultima Thule.

Things change, as Viktor Klemperer noted. Let's make the change rather than be changed.
